I’m not holding my breath that winter is over just yet (after all it’s only March) but we had a beautiful weekend here in Winnipeg. We borrowed our friends backpack carrier and checked out a provincial park that is right near the city.  Isaac was a little sleepy from napping in the car and Bailey was having so much fun with birds and squirrels he couldn’t sit still, but we had fun. dsc_0038dsc_0040dsc_0045

Jason and I both tried the pack out as we’re hoping to do some hiking/camping this summer with Isaac and Bailey. We liked it so much we bought a new (to us) one the very next day. In preperation for our summer plans we also picked up Isaac’s first birthday gift…don’t tell him, but he’s getting his very own down sleeping bag. We’re more than a little excited to start checking out all the great parks in the area.

….put it in the dog bowl

Caught!!!

Caught!!!

Now before anyone calls child services on me, no I don’t feed my kid from a dog bowl. Isaac (like most kids his age I assume) is DONE (read screaming/fussing)  with his meal when he’s had enough and wants out of his chair NOW. So I usually take off the tray and set it on the table, wipe his face (still screaming) and hands (yep still screaming) and set him on the floor while I clean up (the world is suddenly okay and even smiley).  The morning this was taken I scraped what was left of  his breakfast into Bailey’s bowl and walked over to the sink to wipe his tray. When I turned around Isaac had done his patented belly flop/side lean over to the dog dish to inspect. Don’t worry he didn’t eat any, but I can see it’s going to be fun when he actually starts to crawl.

Stuck in Reverse

March 13, 2009

Isaac is VERY interested in becoming mobile, but is just not quite there yet. From sitting one of his feet always gets stuck under his belly (we call it the brake). He can get over it about 50% of the time now and is getting better everyday.  When on his belly he can get onto his hands and knees and rock; but he always drops his hips and starts pushing himself backwards with his hands. I know lots of kids crawl/scoot backwards first; but he hasn’t figured it out yet that he can point his bum in the direction he wants to go, instead he just gets frustrated that he is getting farther and farther away from whatever he was trying to get in the first place.  Here is a shot of him under the table when he was trying to crawl into the kitchen.

…I do still love my dog. It has been cold here lately, I mean really cold. Too cold to take Isaac out and get Bailey out for a walk; and Jason and I have just been too unorganized to get him out after Jason gets home (when someone can stay in with Isaac) for more than just a brief walk to the postbox and back. Needless to say, Bailey has been pouting.

Today was one of Isaac’s daycare days this week, so I made walking Bailey my top priority. It’s – 21 C and feels like -32 C with the wind (and it is windy here, let me tell you), so we had to dress for the occasion. Bailey had on his boots and his coat (at Jason’s insistence) dsc_0021 And I was layereddsc_0024Yes, those are ski goggles and they are amazing at making dog walking comfortable in sub-zero temperatures. You don’t even feel the wind, it’s awesome.  And just to show you how layered I was, here are some photos of the clothes I was wearing.

the lighter pair were only in case I needed to stoop and scoop (it’s impossible to do with the lobster claws and bare hands just sucks)

I think I could have comfortably walked for hours in the back field if I hadn’t been worried about Bailey getting frostbite on his ears or nose.

six

March 6, 2009

I stole this from Eva because I was curious and pretty sure that the sixth picture in the sixth folder on my computer would also be my ‘first baby’ our dog Tia. Turns out I was wrong the picture was this

climbing-with-tia-0061It’s actually a picture of my climbing at Comox Lake. But the folder was titled “climbing with Tia” and had no less than 27 pictures of her in it. Here are a couple that I wanted to share…we still miss our pretty princess, she was such a good dog (when she wasn’t being bad).
